Kelsey S. Strickland, DVM  was born and reared in rural Horry County, South Carolina. Growing up on a horse farm with an expansive variety of four-legged companions, she experienced many events when the services of a veterinarian was invaluable to the health and happiness of all involved.  Unfortunately, all too often there was no local veterinarian who practiced large animal medicine.

After witnessing first-hand a mare’s almost fatal delivery, a young colt’s near death colic, and numerous injury and lameness issues, Kelsey was adamant that one day she would fill that veterinary void in western Horry County. Her path was clear; her goals were in place.

Dr. Strickland is a 2001 honor graduate of Green Sea Floyds High School, a 2005 honor graduate of Coastal Carolina University, and a 2012 honor graduate of the University of Georgia, College of Veterinary Medicine where she was honored by The UGA CVM with and award of exceptional proficiency in large animal medicine and surgery.

Before graduation Dr. Strickland was offered several positions but naturally accepted the position of associate veterinarian at a mixed animal practice in the northern Pee Dee area of South Carolina. This, however, was not truly home.  Soon Dr. Strickland began working part-time in the associate’s position and part-time practicing local ambulatory equine care. Then, on December 1, 2012, Dr. Strickland opened the doors of Blue Ribbon Equine Services, LLC, also known as BRES. After only six months, however, Blue Ribbon was not only a full-time business, her clients’ requests influenced her to offer general medicine practice for dogs and cats in addition to her ambulatory equine practice. While her goals have been realized, Dr. Strickland continues to set new goals for herself, lives for her patients, and believes in offering quality medical care at an affordable cost.
